Google+ What I Made Today: A Skeleton Bed

A Skeleton Bed

When the earth dried up I headed outdoors and made a bed in the firepit for my garden skeletons. My sunflowers, all but one it seems, have been stripped of seed by the goldfinches, chickadees and other assorted winged ones. Most are dried and blackened and will rest now as they await a still, starry night to go up in smoke and down in ash, and eventually return to the gardens as nourishing, sweet ash. I was pooped and sat to rest a bit only to discover that I sat in a puddle. This cued me that my work outdoors was done for the day.

Oh, I made a sweet harvest too and no longer wonder what green and yellow will find its way into my rainbow dinner.

The seasonal boxes where hauled upstairs and I began making my annual review of all things harvest, ghoulish and fun. Let the decorating begin!

I also pulled out some yarn to start a new winter cap for The Boy. Navy blue. He’ll like that and I’ll start it when we cuddle up on the couch tonight to watch a favored creepy movie, No Country for Old Men. That’s right friendo, it may not hold a halloween theme, but it takes creepy into the depths where shadows hide in darkness ... and darkness in shadow.

Last night several friends joined our monthly Pagan Wisdom Gather. Our topic for the evening was to share “experiences with spirit/s” and it was intriguing. As I listened to others relate their stories I recalled some of my own, long forgotten. For me, this sharing was very comforting, not to mention fitting to the season. When I took the dog out before bedtime I noticed what appeared as a pillar of whiteness in the dark of the yard. Halley noticed it too. We just stood there, watching it in silence. I understood ... the presence. We walked toward it, slowly, respectfully, and I swear it moved closer to us as well. I said, out loud, “thank you daddy,” and it faded into a mist of light and evaporated into the darkness. And again I say, thank you daddy.

There is so much to love about autumn and October seems to sing those blessings so clearly, in so many ways.

And one very fun way to love this season is to not miss a single day of Mrs. B’s 31 Days of October. Today you can visit more guest bloggers and snag a chance to win a Custom Zombie print, an adorable set of Halloween Candy Cups, and a beautiful Divination Kit. Check it out!

October blessings!

Aww Eva, thanks and your daddy *is* proud of you. :)

Thanks Vicki the squash *is* yummy.

And thanks too, Annie! I am delighted to open my door each month for these gatherings, though I wouldn't say I *created* the community, rather I created the space for all of us to create that community together. I'm glad too!
