MidSummer Honors

Today I harvested, among other things, Melissa officinalis, commonly called lemon balm.

This first harvest of Melissa will become a Melissa Ale.

Her leaves were stripped, just under a pound, and prepared for the freezer.

She will be delicious.

I also paused this day of MidSummer to anoint my chakras with the morning dew … to read Shakespeare to the trees … to create a tool for myself and a gift for the unsuspecting … I journaled … I spoke my Truth to the rooted ones, to the faint breeze, to the moon, to the sun … I chilled a dusty bottle of rhubarb mead to be imbibed with The Boy as we share a Solstice meal this evening.

That's what I made today. Peace.

Oh, Melissa ale! Huzzah! That sounds amazing...

I am currently researching sacred beer recipes myself. I can't wait to brew my first beer...mead and wine seem different, I'm a little nervous. :)

Happy Litha!

I have tons of lemon balm growing in my garden too. I usually use them for tea or to place in tennis shoes. When the leaves dry they refresh the shoes. Can you tell me what you will do with them after you freeze them? I have more than I need now and freezing sounds like a great idea.

Blessed Solstice! Meal tonight: beans & greens, sauteed summer squash (green phallic baby zukes & yellow squash suns) and all the herbs from my balcony: cilantro, chives, basil, thyme mixed with these adorable pea shoots from Trader Joe's...yum.

Happy Solstice! My garden runneth over with lemon balm, and it eagerly sprouts everywhere, so I too will be following this topic.

Our lemon balm is struggling to get through the summer...odd sun/shade patterns here because of the way the house is set. So good to see your bountiful harvest!

I love lemon balm, but I didn't know you could actually do something with it. You make a beverage? Do tell.

Amber, if you haven't already, check our "Sacred Herbal Healing Beers" by Stephen Harrod Buhner. There are many ideas in that sweet document … I've adapted some of those *old* recipes that Stephen gathered … and I'm quite certain that's how my Melissa Ale came to manifestation!

Healing Woman ~ I will be making Melissa Ale. I'll be posting my formula here for those who brew to give it a go!

Sharkbytes ~ it is used fresh in cooking and dried, it's a great for tea alone or added to another. A sprig in a glass of iced tea is a nice change-up from mint too! Plus, I gently muddle some fresh sprigs in a pitcher and simple add ice and water to it. (I could go on)
