A Farewell to a Young Sugar Maple

Behold the only casualty from yesterday's storm. A young Sugar Maple I've tended for the past 10 years or so. This loss reminds me of how all life consumes life to live, and I see in this loss firewood, mulch, tomato stakes, maybe a new arbor and a walking stick or two … or more.

Peace.

  2. I'm waiting on a (gentle) storm to break our heatwave. Rain is wonderful, but there is certainly a cycle!

  6. The spirit of this maple will live on, as it would with or without me, and I thank you all for your sweet comments and inspirations.

@WolfCreekMill ~ I'm half-wishing I had my Daddy's old lathe … and I *was* imagining other such items that might emerge, from my own hands or not. :)

  7. Sorry to see the beautiful tree go - but you are right; in its loss there comes so much more. We have discovered this ourselves - a huge branch from a neighbor's mulberry tree landed in our yard. And so we have firewood, kindling, mulch and so much more.
