A Collaborative Dent

Today I met up with a fellow Connecticut Herb Association (CHA) member at Holcomb Farm and we played in their herb garden. We sweated in the late afternoon sun, got dirt under our nails and in the creases of our skin. It was a pleasant and rewarding few hours.

And in a few short hours we made a dent in separating those things you want growing in an herb garden, and those things you don't. Piles of undesired botanicals were loaded into the wheelbarrow and taken to the compost to transform into new life-giving love.

I'll be back next week with another CHA member and I plan to start adding heavy mulch to the cleared areas to keep the weeds down, the water in, and encourage the worms to do their magical work in helping to cultivate, aerate, and improve the soil.

It was day-one of a potentially long-term endeavor … and many hands make light work. So, if you're in the area of Granby, Connecticut and would like to lend a hand, whether you're a CHA member or not, let me know and I'll help you to get started! Holcomb Farm will appreciate it I'm sure and you'll get to learn a bit about herbs too, all the while adding value to our community!

That's what I made today. Peace.

Wall Slop

I found this in the freezer. The Boy obviously made this … though I labeled it … and have no idea what it means. Must have meant something at the time. I thawed it to discover happy beef, garden peas, red beans and an array of other vegetables and hints of fresh herbs. It's quite tasty … and it's what for dinner.  That's what I made today. Kinda.

Peace.

Peaceful Steps

Fresh steps in the lawn, accompanied by the clover, violets and buttercups ...

… alongside the hops ...

… around the johnny-jump-ups and horseradish …

… over the garden hose …

… by the oregano …

… amid the strawberry blossoms …

… over the marshmallow ...

… near the sweet cicely and lemon balm … all in my new mauve muck boots. More peace for me … peace with pink. Dig it.

Order to Chaos

Today I continue the latest chapter of my life, which I've lovingly named, "Order to Chaos." This chapter offers repeated reminders of the core definitions of Power and Control. I can plan and plot, organize and schedule in an attempt to control facets of my world, yet external influences seep into my realm, influences that impact my willful expressions of Control … to remind me of the Power I have to choose the ways of grace and compassion (even when I'd rather choose otherwise).

By the end of today I'll be with my mom after all, for Mother's Day. If you're a mom - in any form, of any variety - Happy Mother's Day … not just today, but every day.

Peace.

A Moment of Promise

Spring is blooming in my little world. Oh, sure, the blossoms are small and many go unnoticed by the distracted and disempowered. Yet, within these wee blooms rest a promise of things to be.

And they are beautiful, no matter what someone else may tell you.

Peace.
