This morning I made time to go through my crafting bookmarks and I rediscovered this
tutorial for making t-shirt yarn. Well, I was inspired to search through my Goodwill bags for t-shirts so I could try this technique, which is, by the way, simply brilliant. I'll be making more. I'm not sure what I'll be creating with these first few balls, but I'm sure some strands will find their way into some
Spirit Cords and I'm thinking upcycled cotton place mats and pot holders are in my future.
That's what I made today. Peace.

Great! I always wanted to do this too!
I can't wait to see the spirit cords, place mats, and everything else you make with these. You are genius!
your yarn looks awesome, as though you have made it many a time.
Looking forward to seeing what will be created!
Now THAT is an original idea! You'll have to share with us when you do use these balls of T-shirt yarn! They look beautiful!
I forgot about this yarn too! I will have to dig through my donations bag before I take it..... THANKS!

Nice...I bet that makes warm, cozy things. I want a tshirt rug, and this might be a good start for it! :)
Oh, too fun. I just bought an old thrift shop tee shirt just because I loved the deep, burnt-orange fabric. Had no idea what I was going to use it for, and now I know. :~)
Rose, your blog looks great...I love the black background. Great idea with the t-shirt yarn. I love the idea of spirit cords. I am looking forward to seeing them!
So cool - can't wait to see what the yarn calls to be.
Thanks everyone ~ I was pretty thrilled with this technique and look forward to the days when the gardens are basically still and I'll have opportunity to make time to sit and crochet (or something).
Mel, I'm hardly a genius. :) I'm just a online craft-idea hunter. Nonetheless, you're sweet to say so!
Tammie ~ it's simply simple to make and just kind of makes itself. No skill required!
Leta ~ me too!
I'll be sure to share Arlene. All in good time! I have to make some time for the paints too!
Sus ~ Glad to have jogged your memory!
You're right Amber ~ it *would* make a very nice cotton rug! A FB friend said this makes really nice bath mats.
Have fun JD!
Thanks Jo-Ann! For years I've been transitioning my blog from light to dark as autumn approaches … then dark to light as spring does the same. :)
Again ~ thank you all for your beautiful comments!
That is just SO awesome! What a brilliant idea!
Great idea- I have been doing some of that and crocheting rugs, but I've been cutting the strips wider... I don't get the tubular "yarn." I'll have to try it. I have tub full of old t-shirts waiting to be made into rugs, and we need a new one for the kitchen door.
