A Little Upcycling

This afternoon I crocheted a small drawstring bag using old cassette tape (remember them?) for my yarn. The plastic case may be recyclable - I hope it is ... but at least I am able to repurpose the tape in a nice low-tech, earth-friendly way. There's something oddly pretty about it too.

Like crocheting or knitting with plarn (yarn made from plastic bags), it takes an adjusted touch to allow for a more loose and consistent tension, but - to my way of thinking - it is worth it. The Boy thought it would be funny to make CD bags like this. But he thinks lots of things are funny.

That's what I made today. Peace.

Love, love love it. Here in Hawaii a couple of the islands had passed a law from using market plastic bags, to avoid the reefs from getting damaged. Love your idea. Way to re-purpose. Can you imagine we got this stuff just laying around the house. Hey, idea, make some kind of jewelry case with your cassette holder. Who knows you may start a new trend.

That is great! I have a number of old cassette tapes...what do you do with them! This is a great solution! Your own version of tape-estry!

What a fantastic idea! I do actually like the irony of making cd case/bags out of the old cassette tape!

That's a fab idea! If you have lots of tapes, you can make shopping bags. Don't know, if the material would be strong enough though; haven't got any tapes to try out...

I'm so glad you found something to do with our historic cassette tapes.:-)

How cool is that? I still listen to some of those tapes on my boom box I bought my freshman year of college.
My hubby finds many things I do amusing as well.

Thanks everyone!

I was cleaning a drawer and found this one old tape of self-recorded meditations and recalled this idea from a long-ago Threadbanger episode.

Of course, it *is* my habit to look at things through the quiz of "make it do" (something, anything) before tossing it. We're leaving our children *enough* garbage (in every sense of the word) with which to deal.

Thanks too for the thoughts and ideas - though I will say that working with tape in this way is not the most enjoyable of endeavors for me - but maybe is for ... someone else ...

:)

Well I think that bag is kind of cute I'd find some use for it.
